THE BEAUTIFUL SUMMER
Text: Helena Sanglas
Camping Camaleón is 35 years old, the same age as me. Choosing one summer from the many I’ve spent in Los Caños is incredibly difficult, because believe me, so many anecdotes are hidden beneath those pines. I’ll stick with 2009, because it was a year where I met wonderful people, made great friends, and learned (FINALLY!) what it meant to disconnect from everything.
It was three months of nature and good vibes. It was my beautiful summer, because when I returned to civilization, I was struck by the worst lovesickness I’ve ever had. Noise, stress, bad mood, closed spaces, and a lot of rushing. I’ve never missed a place like this so much because it’s perhaps the only place where I can experience the freedom of being myself.
Every time I hear the song “Family,” I’m transported to that lush green meadow, to that background music, to those spontaneous nighttime dances, and those peaceful conversations that seemed to go on forever. And every year I call upon the beautiful summer to return to me and bring another smile to my face.
